Who doesn't love a unit about chocolate!
This unit supplemented science and social studies for my 2nd, 4th, and 6th graders - it was especially appropriate for February.
Primarily inspired by the need for a short read-aloud between two other books I had already selected, this unit was quick and fun. I started with this chocolate unit study, which turned out to be too simple for my kids, using it as an inspiration point for what we could cover. We learned about the chocolate making process from sourcing the beans to marketing flavors. We also discussed fair trade and environmental impacts.
We wrapped up the unit with a virtual tasting provided by Chuao Chocolatier, a local favorite who also ships their chocolates, and my husband even took some time off work to participate. Make sure to check out their blog for plenty of lesson ideas and recipes.
