What a treat to revisit one of my favorite childhood books!
Before dinner, we watched the movie based on the book so that our dinner discussion included a comparison of the two.
Of course, the book party table had to feature a snow-covered pine forest and a lamppost - this one includes batteries for heightened ambience. Turkish Delight was also a non-negotiable, luckily the kids loved it! I have heard people say that the most impressive part of this book is the author's ability to convince children that Turkish Delight is actually good. We have trouble understanding this joke since the last piece in the box is much fought over!
The meal was inspired by Mr. and Mrs. Beaver: fish and potatoes with plenty of butter. For dessert, marmalade roll and tea.
...Mrs. Beaver brought unexpectedly out of the oven a great and marvelously sticky marmalade roll...when they had finished.... the tea was ready to be poured out.
