This page is in progress...time to do stuff as a working homeschool parent is scarce!
Because of Winn-Dixie has been on our home library shelf for years, but it wasn't until my youngest was in third grade that I actually read the novel. My son was enrolled in an on-site literature class and the teacher started this book as a read-aloud. However, to finish before the end of the course, we had to read chapters at home as well. I was charmed by these characters and the heartwarming story!
To celebrate finishing the book, we put together a meal based on the party hosted by Gloria Dump, complete with egg salad sandwiches, a jar of pickles, and Dump Punch! We also added a bowl of "Littmus Lozenges" and some hot dogs, because of course Winn-Dixie would be hot living in Florida (as well as fruits and vegetables).
After dinner, we watched the movie together and talked about which was better.
